Network Equipment Market is braced for Big Opportunities in Latin America
November 6, 2002 - In the past TUDLA, Technology User Database, Latin America, has provided an overall look at penetration and market share results from data collected from 32,000 sites found in its Latin America database, but for this network equipment analysis we decided to make a change. Instead of using overall data, we decided to take an in-depth look at the Central American, Caribbean and non-brazil South America sub-region. This area, to many of our clients, represents a hot part of the over-all Latin American region that technology companies are trying to focus on.
There are a number of players in this Network Equipment market, but two of them stand out the most, 3COM and CISCO. TUDLA is capable of tracking down and obtaining a great cross section of the activity in the region via telephone interviews we conduct with over 4,000/month technology users, many of which are IT Decision-Makers at our El Cajon Research Facility. TUDLA can basically track down the different types of hubs, routers, switches being used and not only what is currently installed, but also what they have planned to purchase in the next 12 months.
As confirmed by the three charts and graphs shown, 3 COM is number one by a wide margin in Hubs, however CISCO is the overwhelming choice when it comes to Routers and Switches. With the advent of voice/IP and other new technologies for the region, these two competitors stand way ahead over the others, who include besides 3Com and Cisco: 1) in the router market: Motorola, IBM, HP, Bay Networks; 2) in switches market: Bay Networks, Cabletron, Compaq, and HP 3) in hubs market: HP, Encore, D-Link, and IBM.
