In 1999 Dell Computer Corporation had 0% share as the primary computer manufacturer in Latin America when TUDLA began to collect data in this region. In October of that year they made the decision to jump into the market with both feet. There are two potential reasons Dell was interested in Latin America:
54% of Dell customers plan to buy more Dell this year. Now, just 3 years later, Dell has moved from having no presence to becoming the fourth major brand holder in the region with over 5% of IT Managers mentioning Dell as their primary, or most important computer vendor. In fact, Dell is mentioned in over 10% of the business sites in the TUDLA file of over 30,000 companies; and this number has risen to over 17% during interviews conducted from November 2002 to February 2003, and continues to rise rapidly. Perhaps even more compelling is the fact that 47% of businesses that currently have Dell PC’s are reporting plans to purchase more PC’s in 2003, and 54% of these businesses note Dell as their preferred brand.
