PC Manufacturing

HP once again is the penetration and share leader 32 & 40%. While clone/other lesser known brands represent the largest penetration 43% but is way behind in units. Most of the no-name or small brand products appear in the small sites. Medium and of course the larger sties are using branded products to the greatest extent. IBM is strongest in the high-end this is evidenced by the fact that their unit share is almost double their penetration, 10 vs. 19%. As it was with Servers, HP is strongest by a substantial margin in Mexico and when combined with Compaq, represents 34% of the brand penetration and 43% of the units installed. Dell is strongest in ROLA and IBM in Brazil. Although not depicted below, when you go to the current TUDLA database in characterize the Planned PC’s you find the 15% of the HP/Compaq customers are planning to purchase new PC’s while only 6% on average of all brand users are planning new PC’s. This is good and bad news for HP as it means more opportunity while at the same time increases their vulnerability.
